Alma In Conversation: COVID-19 and Perspectives on Death

Death is a universal experience. It’s emotionally fraught — often feared yet rarely discussed. But talking about death and confronting grief allows us to more effectively move through it, and planning for death can bring new clarity to daily life. In the context of COVID–19, navigating grief, loss, and memorialization becomes even more challenging. In this Alma In Conversation, we’ll discuss the power of candid conversations about death, strategies that providers can use to support clients in their grief, and the power of memory and memorialization. This discussion will be hosted virtually and is open to mental health care providers everywhere. A Zoom link will be shared in advance of the event.

Love & Death (Postponed due to COVID-19)

RoundGlass invites you to the 2nd annual Love and Death gathering. We are bringing together the most poignant and inspired thought leaders in relationships, love, aging, death and dying to create a beautiful opportunity to explore what makes us human. We have found that when you combine the two great themes of our life - Love and Death - new reflections, insights, and beauty can easily be found. The modern world has hidden our mortality from view; it is clearly the time to regain the wisdom, healing and joy contained in our impermanence.

Love and Death is inspired by the research of our co-founder Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Jordana Jacobs, whose work illustrates that facing our mortality increases our capacity to love. Michael Hebb, co-founder of the international movement Death Over Dinner and the End of Life Collective will MC this special weekend.

Death and Transformation

Death and Transformation

Most wisdom traditions are shaped by the unassailable fat that we die, yet the inevitable grief, loss, and fear often haunts us, especially in the Western world. When approached right, the walk into the valley of death can be a journey of deep healing, clarity, wisdom, and personal insight. This perennial Summit exploration of life and death has become legendary for a reason: it’s a conversation that defines who we are.

Love & Death Salon Series, Dinner #1

Dr. Jordana Jacobs, clinical psychologist and researcher, and Michael Hebb, author of Lets Talk About Death Over Dinner, invite you to an intimate gathering to dine and discuss the many connections that exist between love and death.  Michael has spent the last decade fostering a greater sense of human connection by discussing death around the dinner table. Similarly, Jordana’s research has focused on the notion that facing our mortality increases our capacity to love. While we as humans typically think about death and feel fear, this conversation opens up the potential of an inversion — together, we will examine the possibility that death awareness can lead to greater intimacy, passion, authenticity (maybe even better sex) - in short, more-better-love.

We don’t know where this conversation and ultimately this work will lead, and we want to begin our journey by eating and exploring with a handful of brilliant humans.

Touchpoint: How To Accept Death So Can You Love More Fully

The relationship between love and death is complex. We’re constantly reminded that life is short, that we only live once, and that romantic love is a significant part of the journey. In this workshop, clinical psychologist, Dr. Jordana Jacobs, will share a bit about her research on the relationship between love and death, followed by a series of exercises aimed to help you practice death awareness, which has been proven to enhance love in your relationships. Over sixty minutes, you can expect to 1) to bring death out of the closet, 2) to become less consciously and unconsciously afraid of death, 3) and to connect more deeply in loving relationships.

This event is part of the Touchpoint Sex Ed Series in partnership with The Assemblage.
This event is free and open to the public.

Salon Talk: Enhance your Love Relationship by Confronting Death

Dr. Jordana Jacobs will confront the promise of our inevitable death, and the role it plays in our lives, our expression, our relationships, and our journey. She will dive into her research about why acknowledging death and the impermanence of all things, rather than avoiding this inevitable fact out of fear, has the potential to enhance our love relationships and help us love more fully. Jordana will then lead us in exercises that will allow us to feel how this relationship manifests on an experiential level. She will also be available for q&a during the event, and available for one-on-one conversations at the conclusion of the event.

Tomorrow is Promised to No One: What Death Can Teach Us About Love (with Katia Bozhikova)

"Death is our friend precisely because it brings us into absolute and passionate presence with all that is here, that is natural, that is love." - Rainer Maria Rilke

Join us for an evening exploring two of the great vehicles of meaning in life; love and death. First, Dr. Jordana Jacobs will speak about death from a psychological perspective, with a focus on how our Western, unconscious denial of impermanence impedes upon our ability to love fully. Katia will then tell the story of her journey being diagnosed with stage four cancer, highlighting how her new relationship to death has fundamentally altered the way she lives. This will be followed by a discussion between Jordana and Katia on the spiritual growth, wisdom, and love that can stem from our acceptance of the fact that indeed, tomorrow is promised to no one.
